maybe there was something to be said

maybe there was nothing to say

your streets were filth

your light shone

in

no way that i could explain

and

the streets

oh your streets

were paved with the worst of golds

i only wish i could collect

tonight

oh we just

shrug it off

oh we just

call it apathy

no reason to ask more questions

reporter, sir

there’s nothing else to see

i’ve got nothing to say

of this world or any other

my cat

and

i

oh we just watch the sun

set

and open

a beer

and wait until we can fall asleep

and then we wake another day

to see when we can fall asleep

next

and it goes this way

because we’d

oh, we’d spent so much time

trying to fill our days

with everything

but

now

we need a rest,

good sir.

I told you,

put away the pen and paper

there’s nothing to see here,

sir,

i’d prefer you left anyhow

it’s time

to see

just how low

my eyelids get

before i decide

its time

to fast forward to tomorrow

yes, sir,

i insist,

its really time you

pack up

your things

and go on to your next story

we want nothing of you here

we call it apathy,

and shrug it off.

it’s time,

now,

please go,

let us sleep,

we call it apathy.

we shrug it off.

we fast forward.

go.

on.

now.

IF IT EVER HAPPENS AGAIN

IF

IT

EVER

HAPPENS

it will change

it will be different

it will not feel like this

there will be the ability

to do it

as it could not

have come through

before.

this

time

the smiling face

would be real

and not a memory

i have created

off of

the warmth

that once

lived

inside

of me.

Next time,

there will be no absence.

Sleeping on Trains,

I wonder sometimes

if when he dreams

he pulls the emergency break…

I Hate Tomorrow (Take 1)

March 12, 2009 · Leave a Comment

it was not for lack of breath

but rather something mysterious
that the fireflies
no longer lit themselves
to be-speckle the night…
once rotund and curious,
their small frames
no longer felt the need to illuminate
on and on through the hapless night
but alas,
I am afraid of the dark.
and fear they will not return tomorrow.

Because What I Have For You = Love

March 12, 2009 · Leave a Comment

when there is rain,
delicately,
we will stare into the sky
i will watch the droplets
as they fall across your nose
cheek
lips
(beautiful)
and when the rain hardens
or begins to sop
I will be your umbrella
and I will cover you,
from the idea of getting wet

or, worse,

irritated.

and If the wind begins to howl,
we will leave this planet,
and as we go by space dust
and infinite adventure.

if the meteors happen to fly
too close
I will protect you

because i don’t mind however many meteors
tear me to bits
as long as you
are safe,
and enjoying the weather.

THERE WERE NO TREES
last time I checked the weather

and my clock began to empty out

hands and dials

sprawled through this amusement maze

inside of, ventricles

and artieries

and I thought

I thought

we had

a little

more

time to

stand

in this forest

The new poems

are never

quite as funny

as the

old poems

we were so much younger then.

We won’t be found.

Should we celebrate the beauty

of today?

I will take you to a strange place

you will put your head onto my chest

and say

“I’m not sure where I am

On this beatiful day

but I think

I will call it home.”
